Reacting to dissapoint
First of all this is not a QQ thread.
Basically today a couple of guildies and I were in the midst of a HM FoW clear. We were doing great having finished 7/11 quests including a clear of the burning forest (the hardest area in FoW IMO). Well were in the midst of heading to the tower of strength when we accidently way over aggroed some of the shadow patrols. Everything happened so quickly and suddenly all of us were dead.
None of us were really angry, the general feeling was just total surprise at first followed by pretty big feeling of disappointment. This would have been our first HM FoW clear and we were looking forward to potentially getting some of the new weapon skins from the end chest. We're not the most experienced PvE guild and had spent a good 2 hrs in FoW already leading up to our wipe.
After we got back to ToA, all of us were silent for about 5 mins and then just kinda said our goodbyes and logged off. We weren't angry or pissed off just disappointed and well, didn't feel like playing anymore.
Now I ask the rest of you, how do you react to these kinds of disappointment? WHat i mentioned above was just an example that just happened to me about 30 mins ago. Your stories could be just failing to kill Mallyx or just falling short of that HoH victory, I'm just wondering how you all react to these things. Do you brush it off and just pick yourself up again? or do you quit the game and throw a tantrum?

OP, I know what you mean. I've had a few endgame/elite mission fails, usually after a brutal uphill struggle. It's a pretty big morale killer to get near the end of a long, difficult area and than realize that for one reason or another, you have to give up.
Usually I just do what you do. No anger, no depression or real sadness, just a kind of quiet disappointment followed by doing something else for a few days. TBH it makes it that much sweeter when you get what you want.
Edit: Oh, I see what you did there, Ryker.

I guess I'm usually not too disappointed when something like that happens. I'd only be really upset if I'm strict on time, but I wouldn't play Guild Wars if that were so.

was helping out a guildy today while he was testing out his smite build with another 600 who was testing. I just ran healing to help out. the 600 lost communication right before murakai, like in her room. was a total bummer.

Anyho, back when I was still noob, I rolled a monk and logged into the old HoH.
Some totally random PuG picked me up, we somehow made it to Courtyard. I was ecstatic... holy shit, we were nearly there! I could just smell that sweet, sweet Crystalline
Yeah. We wiped in 30 seconds. Except me <3 I ran to the centre and proceeded to spam Heal Area on everyone.
We lost Back at outpost, the usual round of 'omg u noobs suck' and we all buggered off.
Was a laugh. Whatever happens, always laugh! It's better that way.

basically kid around and blame each other (We normally blame Knoll). Its not ever really a big deal we just diagnose what went wrong and get back at it next time, no sweat.

Exactly.
It's all for fun, not to sweat.
What's really an indicator of a n00b run, is when Rac demotes, promotes, demotes Knoll again, more than 2 times a night...then we know we sucked.

Haha, yeah. I've been in a few situations like that, like when my guild spends 3 hours doing a full HM DoA run and then get miserably wiped at the last moment by Mallyx. I generally don't make a big deal of it even though I'm frustrated and disappointed. If it's something quick (like a hard mission in my newb days) I'd just try again, or I log off and try again later for longer missions such as DoA. Besides, although winning feels great, the journey there is just as much fun! Or at least it should be .

Guild and I spent 3 hours in Citadel in Everquest 2. It's a raid instance.
Once we got to the end we found it was bugged and the boss encounter wasn't being flagged.
We were pretty bummed out and left one by one. Some people just walked around the instance and eventually left. A lot of work so easily went up in smoke. It's like spending 3 hours working hard on a document that gets erased.
It's a motivation killer.

Thats what I say, when I play with a randomg PUG, and people run around like chickens and do strange things. Last night I played MONK in a forgeweight run, we did...so and so... It was slow and people died here and there, but we moved forward. I kept on screaming on everyone why they dont call, and just hit random targets and generally play like idiots. The guy responded: "its just a game" , Well DUH! I think everyone is aware of that it is a game, but you do invest time in it, and when you invest couple of hours in a Dungeon just to get wiped before someone do something stupid, it goes from being just a game to become a huge waste of time. .
So to all of you that say. "Its just a game" here is the reply: WE KNOW ITS A GAME! WE PLAY IT BECAUSE ITS A GAME! BUT DONT WASTE MY TIME!..
OP "Inger" you have my comforts, shit happens. It will feel better after a couple of hours.
PS. We did manage to kill forgeweight after some close wipes.

QFT. Then we get to see Racthoh rage about what went wrong and then not log on for a couple days while he stews. The rest of us just get over it and move on.

Say "Dang... That sucked. Oh well. We'll go again some day ". Then shortly after re-plan, figure out what we did wrong and what to do to fix it. Then when people have time, get back to it. It could be a day, it could be a year.
I tend to only group with people for the fun, so don't really get too bummed-out if stuff goes tits-up. ^_^ I figure if you have fun and learn something that's what counts.

All entirely depends on what mood I'm in when it happens. Though honestly, my mood can greatly affect my playing ability, too. Earlier this week, for instance, my wife and I were planning to do Bogroot HM. We set up our skills/heroes, bought a few lockpicks, and headed out. I wasn't paying much attention, because I really didn't feel like playing for some reason, and accidentally overaggroed two groups of Raptors and one group of Angorodon. We wiped pretty quickly, and even though it was the first groups we ran into, I just blew up and exited the game pronto.
So, we tried it again a few days later, same builds and everything, and breezed through it all with no deaths (and no overaggroing). I also realized I was actually enjoying myself the whole time. Seems to be linked
Still, I have had instances where our team wiped and I was in a good mood. I find that I actually enjoy myself win or lose. It also prompts me to find out what went wrong, and just try again. If we win the next time through, it feels even sweeter than it would if we had won the first time.
I think it also matters if you're doing it for fun, or for accomplishment. If it's for fun, and you lose, you tend to have a "oh well" attitude. If it's for accomplishment, and you lose, well, it can be very frustrating. Especially if it's something you've done before, and had no problems, then suddenly your team wipes. It's kind of a "WTF?" moment.

*sigh.
Yea I gave it a week before playing again... Did it this time. =) just get the inspiration to get back up and doooo it again. >=)

For the OP. I know the feeling. But the thing about FOW and UW is to know when to run. That's why all of my guildies whenever we do FOW and UW all carry Rebirth.
its better to run than to lay to waiste 2 hrs + of work.

I had a situation today that got me a little down.
Looked for a PUG for Attack the Gates or whatever in EotN. Read the wiki, just don't have the understanding/skills/heros/whatever to get'r done.
After about 15 mins (not long) we all get killed, while waiting to resurect first person quits.
As soon as we re-spawn I hit a clover & got 12% - mentioned it and everyone was like , wow , ty and it was all good.
After about another 10 mins it was obvious that myself and one other player were the only ones that consulted wiki and had any idea of what to do.
So we all die again.
Another quitter.
Players left still aren't listening, we all die again.
Now it's me & dude spawning in, gate has about 1/3 strenght left.
Then I realize it's me and the one hero monk someone brought, 6 people quit.
I gotta admit, left me feeling a little dissapointed and mad at myself for "wasting" the clover.
Meh, switched to my lvl11 Paragon and had some fun killing plants

Heh...
3.5 hours FoW with balanced PUG. Mage died while we were in halfway through 10/11 quests.
Not to mention the several wipes in Urgoz, in that room close before last, with all the vampires.
Or clearing the deep, then being unable to kill Kanaxai.
You name it, I've been there.

have been in the same situation (dang banshee)....hubby and I were doing clearing with our heroes....the first weekend we tried it the griffons died and we said AWH MANNN....and logged off for a while....
a few weekends later and the dang banshee got itself killed....so we said AWH MANNNNNN! and figured if we had cleared it on our first (or this our second run) we probably would say FOW is just tooo easy and probably not go there again.
Now its more like a challenge to see if we can kill the stuff before the npcs get themselves nicked. ....glad we didnt do it on our first try looking back on it.
(hubby always complains the game is tooo easy...now he feels fow is a challenge again!)
Now we know to be much more careful (and micro manage the heroes when needed).....
